Tips for losing weight and being healthy!
- Drink 2 litres of water daily.
- Strength training increase your metabolic rate - even while at rest and protects against osteoporis.
- Eat 5 - 6 small meals a day.
- Cut down the amount of salt, sugar and fat in all foods.
- Increasing muscle mass and strength protects against injury and helps manage joint problems.
Your muscles act as shock absorbers for your joints.
- Exercise regularly.
- Eat foods from the 5 food groups.
- Set realistic goals, losing between 0.5 - 1kg a week is fantastic.
- Eat foods that are low in GI; e.g. eat sweet potato instead of white potato.
- Don't eat after 7:30pm.
- Learn to read food labels.
- Vary your exercise to maintain interest.
- Learn to get into a routine to change your habits.
It takes 3-4 weeks to get into a routine; this is the hardest stage.
- Learn to keep healthy snacks and food nearby, rather than eating unhealthy alternatives.
