Tips for losing weight and being healthy!

  • Drink 2 litres of water daily.

  • Strength training increase your metabolic rate - even while at rest and protects against osteoporis.

  • Eat 5 - 6 small meals a day.

  • Cut down the amount of salt, sugar and fat in all foods.

  • Increasing muscle mass and strength protects against injury and helps manage joint problems.
    Your muscles act as shock absorbers for your joints.

  • Exercise regularly.

  • Eat foods from the 5 food groups.

  • Set realistic goals, losing between 0.5 - 1kg a week is fantastic.

  • Eat foods that are low in GI; e.g. eat sweet potato instead of white potato.

  • Don't eat after 7:30pm.

  • Learn to read food labels.

  • Vary your exercise to maintain interest.

  • Learn to get into a routine to change your habits.
    It takes 3-4 weeks to get into a routine; this is the hardest stage.

  • Learn to keep healthy snacks and food nearby, rather than eating unhealthy alternatives.
